WISE Employment

WISE Employment is a leading Australian not-for-profit employment services provider operating across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and other states. Since 1992, their essential work has supported over 15,000 job seekers annually to find meaningful work, primarily through government-funded Workforce Australia and Disability Employment Services (DES) programs.

The vision for the project

WISE Employment’s dream for its website redevelopment was to usher in a new digital era, creating a platform that truly reflects its human-centred mission. The core goal was to make it easier for every job seeker and employer—especially those with a disability or mental health condition—to access the support they need. The website had to be more than just informational; it needed to be fully accessible (meeting WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards), provide a seamless cross-device experience, and be powerfully optimised for high conversion of job seeker and employer enquiries. It was a project about connection, empowerment, and ensuring the community benefits when everyone is supported to achieve their potential.

The process

The project followed a meticulous journey focused on foundational elements, beginning with comprehensive UX and Information Architecture (IA) design to simplify the navigation for diverse user groups.A key technical challenge was delivering the core business functionality: the webforms. WISE Employment required a sophisticated logic where enquiries, such as a job seeker registering, are instantly and accurately assigned to the most suitable local office based on both their postcode and their answers to eligibility questions (e.g., regarding disability). Butterfly’s solution was to use WPForms and implement Google Geolocation Autocomplete to streamline the postcode entry and then apply the complex conditional logic for accurate assignment.Another strategic hurdle was the final choice of page builder.

  • Inclusive User Experience: The new site is WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant, providing an intuitive and seamless experience across all devices and supporting WISE’s diverse user base.
  • Efficient Service Delivery: The successful implementation of the complex form logic ensures that job seekers and employers are accurately and immediately connected with the right local employment services provider, streamlining internal operations.
  • Robust Technology: The site is built on a stable and flexible stack of WordPress, the Icelander theme, and the Beaver Builder page builder, providing the WISE team with an easy-to-manage platform for ongoing content updates and management.
