The Future Skills Organisation (FSO) was founded with the bold ambition of providing innovative and world-leading approaches to vocational education and training across Australia’s finance, technology, and business sectors. Their key priorities for the new digital platform were clear: to foster enhanced stakeholder engagement and deliver a truly personalised user experience. This meant replacing their existing system with a scalable digital platform that could not only act as a public-facing information hub but also offer a secure, members-only portal for knowledge sharing and collaboration. The final product needed to be accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA compliant) and built for long-term adaptability to keep pace with the rapidly evolving industries FSO supports.

The process
Butterfly approached the project by prioritising a modern, modular design built on WordPress with Elementor. The core technical hurdle was successfully integrating the dual-purpose platform—the public website and the secure Member Portal—with FSO’s existing enterprise systems. Our process involved:
- Complex Systems Integration: We enabled Single Sign-On (SSO) for the Member Portal by integrating it with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) via a miniOrange plugin, ensuring seamless and secure role-based access for invitation-only users.
- Data and Engagement Tools: We built in crucial integrations with third-party tools, including HubSpot for contact management and form submissions, and Power BI for embedding dynamic data visualisations directly onto the website pages.
- Navigating Timeline Challenges: A late design sign-off significantly compressed the development schedule. To mitigate this risk and ensure FSO could begin public engagement, we pivoted to a strategic two-phase deployment. Phase 1, the MVP, launched in June 2025 with essential public-facing pages. This was followed by the Phase 2 launch in August 2025, which included the full-featured Member Portal, news and blogs section, and final Power BI dashboard integrations.

The outcome
The Future Skills Organisation successfully launched a high-performing digital platform that acts as a secure, centralised hub for Australia’s FTB sectors. The solution delivered an accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA compliant) and scalable digital ecosystem, equipped to facilitate high-level industry collaboration and data sharing.Key outcomes included:
Accelerated Market Presence: The strategic two-phase launch ensured FSO could launch their essential public-facing presence quickly (Phase 1, June 2025), preventing a lengthy delay and maintaining project momentum, while the final, complex functionality was deployed in August 2025.
A Unified and Secure Platform: The new website and Member Portal successfully unified public information with a secure, invitation-only area for key stakeholders, all managed through Entra ID SSO.
Enhanced Data Utility: The integration of Power BI dashboards allows FSO to showcase dynamic industry data and research directly on the website, enhancing transparency and value for their stakeholders.
